As was the case with many companies specialized with converting 4x4 vehicles like the Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen, conversions to specialized Hunting vehicles were often carried out. Vantagefield of London offered a whole range of hunting vehicles based on the Range Rover Classic and this article is to show a bit of an overview of the variations offered.
A Vantagefield of London "Regency" which was a standard length Range Rover Four-Door (100" version) with "luxury options", in the case of this purple car a nudgebar, jacked up suspension, custom wheels and tyres, extra spot lights, a retractable "hunting-roof" and most likely some seats that could be lifted.
A Vantagefield of London "Rapier" conversion, which was a 9" stretch based on a Range Rover (factory) four-door. Fitted with a softtop hunting-roof, which allowed the complete rear bench to be hydraulically lifted through the roof. This Rapier conversion also comes with extra handlebars on the roof, winch, widerfenders with Mangels (?) wheels to match and an extra spot light to find the prey....
The Vantagefield Rapier show with the rear seats jacked up.
With the doors and roof closed, this Rapier Hunting Rover is pretty dicreet; only the slightly longer rear door and the handle bars on the roof apparent. Note the bigger fuel tank filler door (two tanks for bigger range?) and extra fitting on the D-pillar, function unknown.
A Vantagefield Range Rover convertible with hunting purposes: this Vantagefield Chamois four-door convertible with stretched rear section / trunk shows it's three passenger seats which all can be jacked up for the hunters. Note the extra fasteners for the bonnet.
An interesting six-door Range Rover with half the roof with a retractable soft-top which allows the third row of seats to be raised through the roof. This Vantagefield conversion was also called Chamois, which was Vantagefield's name for most open-topped Range Rovers.
This vehicle used to be a Range Rover: fitted to customer specification with a Mercedes-Benz nose, this 6x6 Range Rover hunting vehicle is quite and extrordinary beast. Based on a two-door Range Rover, this purposeful Hunter-Rover with complete open top is fitted with velour hunting seats. The side ladders allows easy access to the car for the passengers.
No hydraulically operated convertible top on this Range Rover. A simple tarp slapped over the top to keep the hunters dry or dust-free during a sand storm. The front-end of the Range Rover uses parts from the W123-class Mercedes-Benz.
