Not every modified car that has seen the light in the 1980s and 1990s has enough to be put into a multi-page article. Sometimes there's no story, or at least not one known to me... This doesn't mean the cars don't deserve attention on 1000SEL.com. So here it is; a gallery of randomly selected photos from my collection that have little or no background. Enjoy!
Japan 1991: A 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL (W126) that was fitted with a compete Brabus bodykit and SEC-style bonnet conversion in early 1990s. The wheels fitted are made by Rial.
Japan 1991: A light brown Mercedes-Benz 300E (W124) fitted with a full Version II AMG bodykit and 17" AMG Aero I wheels. Special on this car is the R129 SL-style grille that has been mated to the standard W124 bonnet (note the step in the lines of the bonnet going forward to the grille).
Japan 1990: A Mercedes-Benz 560SEL stretched by 50cm by German coachbuilder CARO from Hamburg. The bussiness style stretch (meaning: a short stretch designed for executives very popular in the late 1980s and 1990s) has been fitted with Lorinser LO wheels.
USA 1989: A 1982 BMW 7-series (E23-model) with a 75" stretch conversion, all "AMG trim package" (yes, the ad said so and it appears some AMG parts might have been used on this Bimmer). Note the interesting square headlights and the gold trim on this limo.... only in the America!
USA 1985: two Le Marquis (Robert Jankel) built Mercedes 500SEL stretched limousines are waiting for work at a private airport.
Japan 1995: this 1988 Daimler XJ40, for sale in 1995, was stretched by Robert Jankel Design in the UK. It features a rear-quarter stretch of 30cm which was something Jankel offered for Jaguar/Daimler, but also for Mercedes S-class and Rolls-Royce/Bentley models. Previous Japanese owners gave the originally distinct car more of a tuner-look by adding Arden (Borbet) Type-A wheels.
Japan 1992: a two-tone 560SEL with Lorinser trim and Lorinser RS-K wheels.
Japan: a typical dash-TV conversion that was very popular in late 80s, early 90s Japan. This one was made by the Japanese company MarineBlau.
Japan 1991: an 1987 model Koenig BMW M3 Turbo.
Late 1980s Germany: a selection of highly modified and widebody BMW M1 (E26) in front of the showroom of it's creator, KHL Langenberg, a company known for creating widebodies of everything with TüV approval....
Japan 1997: A very red AMG W124 300E with color coded AMG Aero 1s, tinted windows and matching grille....
Japan 1994: a Robert-Jankel Design Mercedes 560SEL with a 10 inch / 25cm rear quarter extension. Several of these cars were delivered to Japanese customers in the late 1980s. The car seems to have a Duchatelet front-bumper fitted.
Japan 1993: a Brabus Mercedes 300TE (W124) in dark blue, with full Brabus bodykit and Brabus Monoblock I wheels with color-coordinated spokes.
Germany 1985: A run of the mill 935-look slantnose conversion.... by BMW tuner Breyton! Yes, this 911 was modified by the German tuner Breyton, before it turned to BMW products only....
Germany 1985: An MCM-dressed Range Rover Vogue; this super custom Range Rover was made for Michael Cromer München (MCM) by luxury car dealer Auto Becker (Ferrari dealer, Panther Cars dealer etc) in Düsseldorf using Wood and Pickett exterior parts, Wolfrace wheels, a Wood and Pickett steering wheel, Recaro seats and every wrapped in a thick layer of MCM-logo'ed leather....
Japan 1997: this Mercedes S600L by Flame Yokohama. Widened fenders added to a Lorinser bodykit and Lorinser RSK2 wheels make this S a true mean machine.
Japan 1994: the Exe Brabus Japan dealership with Bodo Buschmann and Jurgen Münnich from Brabus visiting the shop; a Brabus C140 6.9 and W140 6.9 are joing them in the photo.
Japan 1999: Two white W140s with Lorinser 2nd gen bodykit and Lorinser RSK2 wheels in late 90s Japan. The cars were both built by XIV Corporation.
Germany 1994: a Mariani Car-Styling custom interior in black and yellow for a Mercedes 600SEC (C140), styled in the way made popular by Brabus.
Belgium 1990s: VH Exclusive Car Tuning made this W140 S-class with a front-end that has all the styling queues of the R129 Mercedes SL. The wheels are by RH.
USA 1980s: Late 80s coolness: a 500SEC with a Zender widebody kit (the narrow version of the two they had), completely blacked out and with chromed AMG Pentas.....
